About the kit

What is in the Gold Tooth Fairy Kit?

The kit has a gold metallic marker, tweezers, a small corked glass vial, a sticker sheet for labeling the vial, an instruction card with safety information, a story booklet, and a packet of gold dust. It contains nothing else.

What is in the Gift Set?

The Gift Set has everything in the kit plus a silver marker and a copper marker. Silver and Copper are the Gold Tooth Fairy's cousins.

How does a baby tooth turn gold?

You color it with the gold marker. An adult holds the tooth with the tweezers, colors it in slow strokes, lets it dry, and then puts it in the vial. It is a decorative finish, not real gold.

Is it real gold?

No. The marker is a gold-colored metallic marker. The finish is decorative.

How long does it take?

About five minutes of work, plus a few minutes for the color to dry before the tooth goes in the vial.

Do I need anything that is not in the box?

You need a clean flat surface, a paper towel, a pen for the sticker, and soap and water. Everything else is in the kit.

How many teeth fit in the vial?

The vial is sized for all of a child's baby teeth.

What does the booklet say?

The booklet is an original short story about why the Gold Tooth Fairy turns teeth gold instead of taking them, and about her cousins Silver and Copper. It takes a few minutes to read aloud.

What is the gold dust for?

It is for the Gold Tooth Fairy's trail. You sprinkle a small pinch on a windowsill or tray, away from the bed. It is for decoration only and is not edible.

Can I use the kit on a tooth my child lost a while ago?

Yes, if you still have it. Rinse it, let it dry fully, and follow the same steps.

Safety

Is the kit a toy?

No. An adult performs every step. The kit contains small parts and a glass vial and is not for children under 3.

Safety information

Is it safe for kids?

Children can watch from a safe distance, and an adult does the gilding. The kit has small parts, glass, a marker and a dust packet, so we do not describe it as a toy or as safe for unsupervised use. Read the instruction card before you start.

Can my child touch the gold tooth?

A dry tooth can be handled by an adult, and the tooth is meant to stay in the vial. Keep the marker, dust and vial away from children under 3, and do not put the tooth in the mouth.

What should I do if my child swallows a tooth?

Stay calm. One dental source says swallowing a baby tooth is usually harmless and that it passes in a few days, and says to get help right away for choking, trouble breathing, or ongoing pain. If you are worried, call your dentist or doctor. We cannot give medical advice.

Where do I put the gold dust?

On a windowsill, a tray or a plate. Do not sprinkle it on a bed or bedding, and keep it away from eyes and young children.

Using the kit

When do kids lose their first tooth?

Children usually lose their first baby tooth around age 6, starting with the front teeth, and molars are usually lost between ages 10 and 12.

Does the kit work for the first lost tooth?

Yes. A first lost tooth is the most common time parents use it. Order ahead so the kit is waiting when the first tooth wobbles.

Can I put money in the vial too?

No. The vial is for teeth. You can leave cash or a note under the pillow if your family does that.

Can I use the silver or copper marker on the same tooth as gold?

You can, but let each coat dry first. Most families use one color per tooth.
